O piosence

This letter was never in the mailbox. A woman walked north alone for a year, through towns with nobody in them, striking matches to read her map after her torch died. Tonight she reached the ridge above Northgate and saw a hundred lamps burning on the road below, and she sang the whole way down to whoever was home.

Night 17. A knock at the door, the first in a year. I opened it and there was a face. I did not know what to do with it, so I held my light up close. She took my hand. I am writing this down so I do not lose it. Lamp 17 is lit.

Play it on the first night back after a long time away, or for the one who was still there when you came back. Tell us your city in the comments, and Lampwright will see your light.

Tekst piosenki

Intro

Zwrotka 1

My torch gave out a week ago
I strike a match to read the map
I reach the ridge, and down below
a hundred lamps along the road

Pre-Chorus

A year of empty towns
and every door was shut
I hold my breath and ru-u-un

Build

Refren

Someone's home, someone's ho-o-ome
not the last one left
lights are on, someone's home
I'm not the last one now

Drop

(someone's ho-o-ome)

Zwrotka 2

The steps are swept, the lamp glass clean
the snow is shovelled by the wall
and tracks run on from lamp to lamp
too round for boots, and far too small

Pre-Chorus

I don't know your name
I don't know your face
I'm coming do-o-own

Build

Refren

Someone's home, someone's ho-o-ome
not the last one left
lights are on, someone's home
I'm not the last one now

Mostek

I knock, and no one's at the door
it's just a lamp that learned to stand
it lifts its light to see my face
and I reach out and take its hand

Build

Refren

Someone's home, someone's ho-o-ome
not the last one left
lights are on, someone's home
I'm not the last one now

Drop

(someone's ho-o-ome)
