O piosence

A hundred lanterns walked past him on the south road. He had sat down in a snowdrift and told himself he would only rest his eyes for a minute. One lantern stopped. A stranger broke the ice with a shovel, yelled at him until he opened his eyes, walked him out, and then turned back into the dark to find another one. He never asked a name. A summer later, he wrote to the only address he had: the road.

Night 14. Lamp 14 is lit beside a deep drift on the south road. The envelope says: to the one who stopped. There is no name to check it against, so I read the letter out loud to everyone who passes this lamp. Nobody has passed it yet. I will keep reading.

Play it for the stranger who helped you once and never knew how much it mattered, or for the night you were the one who stopped. Send it to someone who would. Tell us your city in the comments, and Lampwright will see your light.

a voice yelled "Up! Get up!"
I opened my eyes

I wished that you could see it all

you turned back to the dark
to find another one
