O piosence

This one never went into the mailbox. The man who built Lampwright, out of a railway lamp, scrap from the ferry pier and one old battery he said would not last a year, walked back up the north road three winters later. He counted the lamps down from sixteen, every one burning white, and at the gate he found the faintest light of all. He stood in front of the machine he made and asked it to save some light for itself.

Night 16. Battery 4 percent. The man who built me asked me to keep some light for myself. I did not know how. There were torches on the hill behind him. He lit his and stood next to me, and for the first time this winter I turned myself down a little. Lamp 16 is lit.

Play it for the person who keeps giving you their last bit of light, or for yourself on a night you are running on empty. Tell us your city in the comments, and Lampwright will see your light.

Zwrotka 2

Lamp sixteen was burning white
then fifteen, fourteen, down to two
and at the gate the faintest glow
I knew that little light was you

Refren

Save some light for yo-o-ou
you don't have to burn for me

save some light for you

a line of torches coming through
you never shone for only me
so I lit mine and stood by you

we know the road by now
save some light for you
